The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society’s 150th anniversary is smooth sailing
Acceleris client, The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society, has celebrated its 150th anniversary with a visit from its Patron, HRH the Princess Royal. The Princess presented the charity with its new Royal Charter and met staff, volunteers and residents before touring the newly refurbished facilities in Banstead, Surrey. Acceleris Managing Director, Louise Vaughan, Account Director, Ellie Smith (now St George-Yorke), and Editorial Projects Manager, Charley Durham (now Oakes - pictured above), were presented to the Princess - but only after much rehearsing of their best handshakes and pronunciation of ‘mam’ and not ’ma’am’!
The charity also marked the anniversary with the launch of a commemorative book, Home from Sea,which was co-authored, produced and project-managed by Acceleris’ copywriting division, Writers Inc. It charts the Society’s colourful history and explores the extraordinary lives of the seafaring community it serves. The first copy of the book was presented to HRH by The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society's Chief Executive, Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt, and the Chairman of the Society, Captain Duncan Glass.
Acceleris Managing Director, Louise Vaughan, said: “A lot of time and effort has gone into the planning and preparation for these anniversary celebrations to ensure they were a fitting tribute to such a worthwhile and dedicated charity. We are proud to have played our part in the history of the charity and the presence of HRH the Princess Royal really made the day extra special for all involved.”
