Smart Meter Campaign in Line for European Award
Acceleris and client Utilita are joint finalists
Acceleris and its major client Utilita, the UK’s fastest growing independent energy company, have been jointly shortlisted for a prestigious European award.
Together the two organisations have been named as a finalist in the communication industry’s European Excellence Awards for a campaign called ‘Putting Smart Thinking Into Smart Meters.’
Competition in the ‘Energy’ category of the awards was intense and the campaign is now up against projects by global giants Shell and General Electric, among others, with the winner to be announced at a ceremony in Hamburg later this month.
The multi-strand campaign was designed to promote the use of smart meters in managing and reducing energy bills for households, including some of the most vulnerable in the UK. It has been so successful that 98% of Utilita’s almost 600,000 customers have smart meters installed, the highest percentage of any energy supplier in the country.
Devised and delivered by a combined team of Utilita’s internal communications and marketing department and Acceleris staffers, the campaign included an innovative, seven-figure annual partnership with the global music festival and concert organisers, Live Nation, sponsorships with more than 20 football clubs, support for a national programme of fuel poverty forums as well as social and mainstream media activities. It was delivered in a year that also saw the company post record turnover of £411 million, more than double staff numbers to 1750 and establish 11 locations around the country.
Jem Maidment, Head of Marketing and Communications at Utilita, said:
“Raising our profile and increasing brand awareness through a range of innovative, high impact initiatives has played an important role in driving the growth of the business and pioneering the use of smart meters.
“The success of the campaign has been down to the creativity, commitment and hard work of both our in-house team and our long-term partners Acceleris. It’s very rewarding to see our work ranked alongside that by some of the biggest names in global business.”
Louise Vaughan, Managing Director of Harrogate and London based Acceleris, added:
“We have worked with Utilita for almost six years during which we have developed an extremely close relationship and have witnessed the phenomenal growth of the business in a highly competitive market.
“We know from previous experience just how competitive these awards are so the mere fact of being shortlisted is a major achievement in itself and we look forward to hearing the final decision of the judges.”
Acceleris has won the ‘Issues and Reputation Management’ category of the European Excellence Awards three times in the last four years, in Munich, Stockholm and Berlin.
