The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society

An agency first as Acceleris publishes a commemorative hard-backed book

The client

The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society is a charity and care home based in Surrey, which provides outstanding care, support and accommodation for former seafarers and their dependants.

The objective

For 2015, we were tasked with delivering a 12-month communications campaign to help the charity celebrate its 150th anniversary throughout the year.

What we did

We provided dedicated PR and social media support to publicise several anniversary events including an open day and residents’ party, for which we secured the attendance of comedian Tim Vine, and the main celebrations in July with VIP guest HRH The Princess Royal, the Society’s Patron. A commemorative book was produced by our Writers Inc. division. Called Home From Sea, the publication explores the extraordinary lives of residents and staff past and present.

  • 100+ pieces of coverage following the two main events
  • 21% increase in web traffic
  • In Home From Sea, the Society has preserved its first 150 years for future generations
  • The home also won a prestigious business award for its range of eco-friendly measures

“This year’s celebrations have surpassed our expectations. We have had some very good feedback from residents, relatives, staff, partners [and others]. We also have an anniversary book of which we can be justifiably proud and a fitting tribute to the Royal Alfred.” Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt MBE, Chief Executive
